It's oxidizing because it has copper body panels, which oxidize in air to turn green (like the Statue of Liberty).

Oh no, I completely get what happened, I'm just surprised they didn't upkeep the panels.

I think Peugeot wanted the panels to turn green, otherwise they would have indeed done something to prevent oxidation.
